Title Tag Optimization & Title Tag Design

Your Title Tag is your most Important Keyword Tag !

"Search Engine Positioning - Click To Find How!"

This is an example of a good title for a web site. It makes the user want to click the link to the site, and is eye-grabbing. Developing a good title for your web pages is a very important and delicate process.

Before we get ahead of ourselves, let us explain what a title is and where you can find it. There are two title tags: one of them is found in the Meta section of your HTML code, and the other is a stand-alone tag at the top of your code. The stand-alone Title tag is the one that we are discussing on this page, and is the more important one. This is what it looks like:

Search Engine Positioning - Click To Find How!

This can be found at the top of your page in the between the <head> </head> tags. The title tag is viewable at the top of your browser window, and is the larger font on a search engine results page.

The screen shot below is how the title displays in the Microsoft Internet Explorer browser.

With billions of web sites on the Internet and search engines sometimes giving back millions of results for a search, you need the title of your web site to stand out above the rest. The catch is that some of the search engines and most of the directories have become pretty picky about the title not containing any "marketing" in it. This means that titles should not look state "Free Consultation!" or "The Best Web Designers on the Internet."
There is also a certain number of characters, or letters, that the title should stay below. So this leaves the person constructing the title for the web site with limitations and borders to stay within.

One important point your title tag is your most important keyword tag
, don’t use search engine stop words or words like “Home, Default or Index. Use your most important keyword or keyword phrases.
